Introduction: The unique terroir of the Mount Veeder produces wines that are typically powerful in structure. The grapes for our signature 2017 Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Meadowcroft vineyard located within 1200 feet elevation. The steep slopes, sedimentary clay and volcanic soils of the vineyard restrict the root growth, producing grapes with small berries and intensely concentrated fruit flavors. The Cabernet grape selection is clone 337.
Winemaking: The grapes were handpicked at the end of September, sorted and de-stemmed into small fermentation bins and allowed to cold soak for 3 days to help stabilize the color and enhance flavor. It was fermented for 17 days and punched down 3 times a day, with an additional 4 days extended maceration to increase extraction of color and phenolic compounds. The wine is then gently pressed and aged on fine lees for 26 months in 100% French barrels with 40% new oak to preserve the delicate notes and mouthfeel. Only 5 barrels produced.
Tasting Notes: True to the Mount Veeder appellation, this 2017 Kukeri Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits dark concentrated fruit flavors of wild blueberries, black paper and cigar box and well-integrated fine-grained tannins with excellent lingering acidity, and fantastic freshness, Big, bold with inky purple-black color and ultra-ripe on the attack, packed with small black-fruit preserves, accented by exotic spices and earthy accents. A hint of forest, cedar, and roast espresso flavors also combine these aromatics to create this massively rich full-bodied mountain Cabernet Sauvignon finishing with epic length and beautifully lifted.
This wine it is a superb candidate for cellaring and should mature well over the next 10 to 15 years.
